The Dutch-American artist Frederick Franck, born at Maastricht in 1909, has lived through nearly the entire twentieth century, and he has observed and recorded that century actively in pictures and books. Among his best-known works are his impressions of the Second Vatican Council. Watching the Vatican is not just a catalogue containing over a hundred drawings and paintings by Frederick Frank, but also contains essays by Frans Haarsma, Bas van Iersel, Adrian Manning, Jan Roes and Edward Schillebeeckx about the importance of Pope John xx111 and about Frederick Franck's work.
